Legislation
Although the province of Alberta is working to bring regulation to massage therapy, it is currently not a regulated industry unlike some other provinces, such as, British Columbia, Ontario, Newfoundland and New Brunswick. This is why it is important that Associations in Alberta certify massage therapists and enforce Standards of Practice as well as a Code of Ethics.
Expectations of the
Association

As an association, we expect the utmost professionalism from our members and adherence at all times to our Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics. These Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics guide RMTs’ practice in order to protect the public. Failing to maintain either published Standards and Code of Ethics of the association or unpublished Standards of Practice or Code of Ethics of the profession is an act of misconduct. It is an RMT’s obligation to ensure they are complying with the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the profession and the regulations of the association that are in force at the time. These regulations of the association are in the Association By-Laws. To view any of these documents please request them from the registrar's office.
